Each year the NAIDOC committee chooses a theme to frame the celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It is important to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the teaching and learning across the year but particularly in the lead up to NAIDOC week.
n this session, the 2021 NAIDOC theme will be discussed. It will also explore the teaching and learning ideas that can be incorporated, and materials such as books, songs and technology that can be used to engage children.
Standards addressed:
1.1.2 Use teaching strategies based on
knowledge of students’ physical,
social and intellectual development
and characteristics to improve student
learning.
1.3.2 Design and implement teaching strategies
that are responsive to the learning
strengths and needs of students from
diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and
socioeconomic backgrounds..

strategies that are responsive to the local
community and cultural setting, linguistic
background and histories of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander students.
2.4.2 Provide opportunities for students to
develop understanding of and respect
for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
histories, cultures and languages.
