Metacognition and Neuroscience - What Matters for Teaching

Metacognition and Neuroscience - What Matters for Teaching
Online professional learning to ensure you develop new resources and/or an implementation plan for your classroom (5 hours)

Summary
This session brings together the teaching strategy of metacognition with the emerging research on neuroscience. In its simplest form metacognition teaches students about their own thinking and their  own learning and thereby promotes greater control over their own learning. Teachers who are informed about the research on neuroscience develop a more complex understanding of the influences on student learning. Those are better placed to support all students to become independent learners, from those who have experienced trauma through to gifted students. This full day session includes detailed input on neuroscience and metacognition. It draws on the practical experience of a leading teacher who has successfully implemented these approaches in their classroom and includes substantial discussion, exploration and question time. The aim for the session is that you will leave with new resources and/or an implementation plan for your classroom. These full day sessions are practical and information rich and will make a substantial contribution to your performance and development as a teacher.
