Responding to Abuse and Neglect: Education and Care Training 2009 - 2011 (Mandatory Notification) 14 DECEMBER 2009THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL. The next course will be in February. The Australian Education Union provides one-day Responding to Abuse and Neglect Education and Care Training as a service for its members.
The training is conducted by a DECS/Department for Families & Communities, Families SA-trained trainer, using the new 2009 manual and approved training process. Approximately 20-25 participants attend each course. All participants will receive a copy of DECS publications, "Responding to Abuse and Neglect: Education and Care Training 2009-2011", and "Protective practices for staff in their interactions with students: Guidelines for schools, preschools and out of school hours care", morning and afternoon tea and a certificate* as evidence of completing the course. Training as a pre-requisite for employment in DECS, as a requirement for initial registration and for uni students Click here for information. These people will have already completed a full day course in or since 2006, and may have teacher registration due as early as the end of this year. This 3 hour update is being run in all sites including district offices. Members not in a site should attend their district office sessions. Please ring your district office if you have not completed the 3 hour update yet. Members in sites should do the update with their colleagues, as there are issues about internal processes that sites need to work through together. They do not have to do the full day course again. Lost/misplaced certificates: Participants should make every effort to retain certificates issued at the training. However, in the event of loss or misplacement, the AEU will issue a replacement certificate at a cost of $5.50 (incl. GST) admin. and handling fee. Requests should be made in writing, accompanied by payment of cheque/money order for $5.50 addressed to the AEU, 163 Greenhill Road, Parkside, South Australia, 5063.
