AEU Recruitment and Selection Issues Paper released

The AEU has released an Issues Paper on the Recruitment and Selection of Teaching Staff. This is the first step by the AEU in consulting with members about proposed changes to the DECS Teacher Recruitment and Selection Policy.
Education Minister Weatherill released the Government’s proposal for a new Teacher Recruitment and Placement Policy today. The way the material has been presented, including in the media, could suggest that issues such as ending ten year tenure and moving towards open advertisement of all teacher vacancies is a fait accompli.
AEU members are reminded that the new Award requires any changes to the current Policy to be agreed by the AEU and according to timelines that provide for meaningful membership consultation and decision-making.
