Skills for All - is it good for VET?

08-09-2010

Members should familiarise themselves with the  Skills for All consultation paper although it is pretty clear that this paper outlines the direction the State Government is heading in and any feedback that is at odds with the ten point reform plan is unlikely to be welcomed.

The AEU has outlined to Minister Snelling its serious concerns about the introduction of student income contingent loans and that without a serious commitment to regulating training quality, trainees exercising their right to select their preferred RTO stand to be seriously disappointed. Ultimately, TAFE is likely to suffer as students go for the cheaper, quicker training options.

On this point, the Training and Skills Commission has recently released a Discussion paper on "Regulatory Arrangements for VET for School Students Programs in South Australia" which arises from stakeholders concerns about the quality of VET being delivered to school students. Members are encouraged read the Training and Skills Commission discussion paper and send feedback via email to Lise Windsor: Lise.Windsor@sa.gov.au by Septermber 24.
