Skills Australia released “Skills for prosperity: a roadmap for vocational education and training” on 3 May. The report made a number of recommendations about the future of the VET system in Australia, and which would signal a sea-change in the approach to VET if they are adopted by the federal government. Robin Shreeve, Chief Executive of Skills Australia said:
the public provider TAFE plays a unique role in many communities and this should be recognised with guaranteed base funding.
This is the first time in recent history that clear recognition of the critical role of the public provider has been asserted, and been backed up with a recommendation for guaranteed base funding. The AEU welcomes this.
