This seminar creates an opportunity for AEU TAFE members to network, receive up-to-date information and work through issues arising from working with "difficult to manage" young adults. The presenter is Garry Garnaut, is a registered clinical counsellor with the Counselling Association of South Australia, a Senior Faculty member of the William Glasser Institute and retired AEU member with over 20 years experience in education, most recently as Principal of Bowden Brompton Community School. Garry now works in Australia and overseas as an Advanced Instructor in Reality Therapy, a presenter, trainer and counsellor specialising in adolescents and educational settings. Garry has worked at all levels of education. Garry's counselling style is relationships focussed drawing on his experiences including his role as a group worker trainer in communication and assertion skills. The title of this 90-minute workshop is “What You Think Matters” and it is designed for lecturers/teachers working with young adults in the senior years of schooling or undertaking TAFE studies. Teaching is a tough game as the research indicates. Teaching is also incredibly rewarding as a student or student(s) blossom because of what the teacher has taught them, often through their personal connection with the student(s). Teaching is full of preparation, student management and administrative tasks. It all comes together as a teacher knows in the “organised chaos” of the working day/week. It can seem relentless! This workshop aims to explore this mix of ideas and provide some practical skills for working with the young adult or older adolescent. |
