This year sees the implementation of the National Reform Agenda which provides for new standards including regulatory requirements, quality assessments, a national curriculum and staff qualifications through a National Partnership Agreement between the South Australian and Federal Governments.
A new national authority, the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) has been established to manage the quality agenda.
New legislation at the state level has established a new Education and Care Services Registration and Standards Board to oversee the implementation of the regulations. New eligibility and qualification requirements for teachers, ECWs and SSOs were outlined in a circular to all preschools and schools from DECD in November 2011.
The AEU will continue discussions with DECD in order to support staff who are required to update their qualifications in accordance with the National Quality Framework.
