As part of our ongoing Secure Work campaign the AEU and SA Unions have been arguing before the Full Bench of the Industrial Relations Commission for an increase in the loading paid to casual employees.

You are probably aware that currently casual ECWs, SSOs, and AEWs receive a 20% loading. The AEU and SA Unions have successfully argued that this will be increased by 5% to 25%.

The increase in the casual loading will be phased in over a period of time.

The following increases will apply:

growth success4.1 [growth success4.1.jpg]22% from 1 January 2012
23% from 1 July 2012
24% from 1 July 2013
25% from 1 July 2014

The AEU and SA Unions are also pursuing an increase to the 16% loading for temporary ECWs and SSOs.

We will keep you updated on this as more hearings take place in the Industrial Relations Commission.

The AEU and Government representatives are required to meet on this topic and report back to the Industrial Relations Commission by 1 March 2012.

We hope that this increase in the casual rate will have a positive impact on the wages of the many casual employees employed in DECD schools.

If you are a casual ECW or SSO and receive the 20% loading, check your payslips to make sure the increase has been passed on to you!
