TAFE Lecturer 6 progression
08-09-2010The AEU is hearing mixed messages from campuses about the process of lecturers progressing from level 5 to level 6. Many members report that the process was quite straightforward with minimal fuss.
Unfortunately this has not been everyone's experience, with the main problem encountered being an unreasonable expectation that lecturers have to be on an institute committee before bothering to apply.
The key competency in the progression from 5 to 6 guidelines, "Contribute to Institute Committees", means precisely that, and it is not a requirement to be a member of a committee. Members who are blocked from progression on such grounds should immediately contact the AEU for advice about how to access the dispute settling procedure as such an interpretations of the guidelines needs to be challenged.
