SSO/ECW conversions to permanency rolling out in Term 4
Clause 2.2 of the new Award specifies the eligibility requirements for SSOs and ECWs to be converted to permanency during Term 4. Details regarding these requirements have already been distributed by the AEU and are available on our website. The AEU is currently finalising the list of members who meet the criteria which will be forwarded to DECS in the next few days.
The AEU met with DECS recently to discuss the implementation of this process. Principals and preschool directors will receive lists of eligible employees in the very near future. The first lists will comprise only SSOs and ECWs who work in one location. They will be followed by lists of those working in two or more sites.
SSOs and ECWs are advised to inform their principals and preschool directors if they meet the required criteria and to check that they are included in the relevant lists as they arrive in schools. Following communications between principals, preschool directors and State Office HR staff, offers of permanency will be made as Term 4 progresses. In the vicinity of 600 to 700 SSOs and ECWs are expected to be converted to permanency. Members who require assistance in the process are encouraged to contact the AEU.
Given that almost 500 SSOs and ECWs were made permanent last year, the AEU campaign for increased permanency for SSOs and ECWs will have resulted in approximately 1,200 additional permanent appointments throughout 2009 and 2010.
Well done to every AEU member for your support in achieving this very significant gain.
