Know your rights regarding workload scheduling18-03-2011
Under the current TAFE SA Education Staff Arbitrated Enterprise Bargaining Award 2011, the rights of employees are clearly spelled out in the various clauses in Part 5 “Regulation of Workload.”
In visiting workgroups across most TAFE campuses, it has become really clear that the employer is not following the various steps as set out in Part 5. For example, Clause 5.3.1 states that:-“Annualised benchmark hours of Instruction and Assessment (‘benchmark hours’) will be established across all educational programs by use of a consultative process involving staff and managers from the relevant workgroups.” Has your workteam had such a meeting yet? When was the last time your manager consulted with the workteam on such a matter? How was it determined whether a fulltime teaching load in your program was 24 hours or 18 hours or something in between?
