Keep the Act Intact!

The State Liberal Party is trying to write the AEU out of the Education Act by removing public education workers' rights to union representation on important decision making bodies and panels. Act now to protect your rights!

On June 14, the South Australian Liberal Party, with the backing of the South Australian State School Leaders Association (SASSLA), moved amendments to the Education Act (1972) which would have the effect of removing AEU representation from Merit Selection Panels, Classification Review Panels, School Closure and Amalgamation Panels and the Teachers Appeals Board.

This move by the State Opposition undermines the right of public education workers to be represented by their union on bodies that make decisions about their future and the future of public education.

These amendments reveal that the Liberal Party is intent on eliminating union involvement in public education and paving the way for the decentralisation of our public education system.

Moves toward so-called "school autonomy" in education provision have resulted in systemic failure wherever they have been attempted. We cannot allow this to happen in South Australia.
