Review of Teachers and Leaders Work
As part of the Arbitration decision handed down by the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia (IRCSA) last year, the AEU and DECS have begun joint work on a review of teachers and leaders workload.
Consultation with teachers and leaders in the field has commenced and the review team will continue discussions with key stakeholder groups through existing structures such as the AEU Principals Consultative Committee, Beginning Teachers Conferences, Regional Leaders Conferences and Principal Association meetings.
Clause 5.6 of the South Australian Education Staff (Government Preschools and Schools) Arbitrated Enterprise Bargaining Award 2010, states that:
A joint working party will be established to review the work of teachers and leaders, including but not necessarily limited to:
- Analysing what teachers and leaders do in each educational setting;
- Identifying which tasks are appropriately within the responsibility and role of teachers and leaders, respectively;
- Identifying the designation of appropriate staff within the school or regional level to undertake tasks that are not properly within the role of a teacher or leader;
- Reviewing all central and regional administrative policies and processes that are required to be implemented at a local school level with a view to simplifying, reducing or better managing the administrative load on teachers and leaders; and
- Reviewing the allocation of SSO support to those schools with significant levels of individual student plans with a view to providing increased classroom support for teachers in those schools.
