VIDEO: Skills for All a copy of failed Victorian reforms

16-11-2011

patforward [patforward.jpg]AEU members filled the AEU Conference Room last week for an important seminar on VET reform.

The AEU Federal TAFE Secretary Pat Forward (pictured) told members that with the State Government ready to implement their Skills for All reforms that TAFE's future is far from secure.

The State Government have themselves admitted that Skills for All is virtually a carbon copy of the Victorian VET reforms. Not surprisingly, the Victorian reforms have failed dismally and have copped heavy criticism  in the Victorian press in recent weeks.

Having opened up the Victorian VET sector to contestable funding, 16 out of 18 TAFE institutes are experiencing serious financial difficulties less than two years into the new regime.

Pat explained that there are a whole range of reasons for this, not the least of which is the rapid growth of private providers who in receiving an increasing share of government fuding are undercutting TAFE by offering cheap but poor quality training courses.
